It is hard to find the time to keep up on their personal health and wellness until an illness catches hold and stops them in their tracks. Here are a few tips to help students make the most of the resources at their fingertips and to ensure they stay healthy and free of illness throughout their education.

#1 Diet

What you eat is the most important health aspect of your life. When choosing a diet, you always should consider the following.

Learn proper portion size. To avoid eating too much of even the healthiest foods, keep track of how much and what you’re eating.

Vary your meals. Always change your food. Add different kinds to every meal.

Eat breakfast. Start your day with a good meal when you get up. This is the hardest, yes. And at the same time the most important.

Don’t fight stress by eating. It can be tempting to reach for a bag of sweets or some cookies when you’re stressed out about an impending exam. Eating might help your stress go away, and at the same time, come back with more damaging results. Try working out or taking a break instead.

It can be pretty hard to find time to exercise properly, but the reward if you do, is unbelievable. It has been found that regular exercise can prevent a number of diseases.

Most of the universities are now equipped with free gym facilities and you can hit the gym anytime you want.

Stretch first. Stretching helps to avoid injuries when you are doing the exercise. Ride your bike. Play a sport. Take benefit of the open spaces. Most colleges are equipped with large grassy plains or trails you can walk on. Take advantage of these spaces to take hikes, just walk around  or play Frisbee.

Most of students aren’t exactly known for their early to bed early to rise attitudes, but getting sleep is an vital part of staying healthy. Good sleep can do wanders to your body. Take a nap whenever you are feeling tired out of your mind. And always, always sleep at least 5 hours a day.

Avoid caffeine, eating and drinking right before bed. All of these activities can shed your body’s internal clock, so try to limit alcohol, meals and caffeine consumption to a few hours before bed.

#4 Stresses

Despite your field of study, every college student battles with some level of depression or stress, maybe both. It is very important to sort out these feelings or it could end up hurting your health.

Create a routine. If you get yourself in the habit of working out, sleeping and studying at certain hours, it will be easier to fit in all the things you need to do in a day without feeling too stressed out.

Put limits on work hours. Limit the times when you will work to give yourself time to sleep and rest up so you won’t get stress.

Give yourself a break. Be realistic. Sometimes there is just no way you are going to get done everything you’d like to in one day. Be realistic about your plans and understand that you can only do so much in so little time.

Understand that it may take time to fit into your new life. Most students don’t make best friends on the first day of college. It takes time to build friendships and relationships, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t fit in right away. Give it some time.
